| In a rollercoaster ride through over
three decades of Elton classics, Jon superbly recreates the style, feel
and incredible flamboyant energy of Sir Elton himself. From all out rockers
to romantic ballads this is a show that can be tailored to suit any venue
and any occasion, be it a private party or corporate cabaret. Jon’s genuine love for the music of Elton John, coupled with his own skill as a musician and showman, make this the ultimate tribute. Born 14th March 1969 into a musical family, it was no surprise to anyone when Jon showed an interest in the piano. By the time he was big enough to get himself onto the piano stool he was already completely smitten with the tones of this incredible instrument and used to spend all his time plonking away on the keyboard and singing in that wonderful way kids do; at the top of his voice and with very little melody! Jon was the youngest of four brothers and luckily for him, everyone in the family had a different ‘favourite’ type of music. All the way from plain song and classical religious music (fairly inevitable when his Dad was a Vicar!) through traditional folk music to glam rock. It was this that really caught his attention and first introduced him to the music of Elton John. The flamboyant costumes and outrageous antics of the man, coupled with strong beats, big harmonies and catchy melodies of his songs had Jon hooked from the first time he saw him on Top Of The Pops. Although Jon does confess, that his absolute favourite band at the time was ‘The Sweet’, he latched on to Elton because, even at the ripe old age of four, he already fancied himself as a pianist and singer and wanted to be like him. Jon still remembers standing in his brother’s bedroom with Crocodile Rock blaring out at full volume, vowing that when he grew up he was going to be a pop star! Jon began formal musical training at six years old when his parents enrolled him with a local Piano Teacher as a birthday present. Over the following ten years he took and passed sixteen exams (eleven practical and five theory) eventually taking his Teachers’ Certificate at the age of sixteen. Unfortunately, his father wasn’t there to see him graduate as he died in December 1980 but Jon is sure he was there, spurring him on toward his goal. With that ‘under his belt’ and having already been singing with various local bands for two years, he decided it was time to get some formal vocal training. So over the next five years Jon went through all the practical exams again, under the tuition and guidance of several Instructors until he graduated as a Vocal Teacher in 1991. During this time he was also working as a musician and song writer and attained some limited success with the band ‘Dirty Tryx.’ "We had a great time during the late ‘80s touring Britain and Europe, with several commercial releases to our name. Our career peeked with a number one single in Malta in 1990. We split up three months later!" After that it didn’t take Jon long to discover there was quite a good living to be made on the club circuit for someone with his talents and so began his new life as a ‘jobbing’ musician. It's a career like any other and wasn’t going to go from ‘Bugtustle Working Mens Club’ on the first night to ‘Live At The London Palladium’ the next: It would take dogged determination! However, Jon's natural talent ensured that over the years, his bookings went from pubs to clubs to hotels to theatres and cruise ships. "Essentially, I’m still doing the same job that I started back in 1990. Over the years I’ve worked my way up through the ranks, playing at progressively bigger and better venues. Clients include: Sky TV, Thomson Gold, DeVere Hotels, Marriott Hotels, Hilton Hotels, Esporta Health Clubs, Luminar Leisure A typical performance comprises 1 x 60 minute set. Probably the best Elton tribute on the circuit, Jonathon is highly sought after and early booking is recommended. |
